Many believe that a cat’s life consists solely of sleeping on the couch, eating treats, and meowing disapprovingly at delivery workers. There’s an online community called “Cats With Jobs” where users post photos of their furry friends at work. Among them are security guards, handypersons, medical assistants, and even real bosses. Let’s take a look at these whiskered workhorses who look like they really know what they’re doing.
1. Furry Rescuer
Most “working” cats are, of course, a fun figment of the imagination. Owners dress up their pets or take photos of them at opportune moments, creating the impression that the cat is actually working. But some cats actually do perform useful work.
For example, cats have long been considered excellent rodent hunters. In Chicago, they’re even used to combat rat infestations. Tree House Humane Society launched the Cats at Work program, which brings cats into neighborhoods with serious pest problems.

Even Disneyland is home to about two hundred cats that help control the rodent population. They usually come out “on duty” at night, but sometimes visitors get to see the furry workers during the day.

Cats are useful not only as hunters. They also help people cope with stress and loneliness. Therapy cats can be found in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and even prisons.
Scientists believe that cat purring has a beneficial effect on the human body. Some studies show that vibrations at certain frequencies can promote relaxation and restoration.

In Japan, a cat named Tama became a true celebrity. She was appointed “stationmaster” on a small railway line that was struggling financially.
The idea was unexpectedly successful: tourists began coming specifically to see this unusual employee, buying souvenirs and taking photos with her. Thanks to Tama’s popularity, the local economy received a huge influx of income.
After the famous cat’s death, her duties were inherited by other furry “stationmasters” – Nitama and Yontam.

In Lithuania, a cat named Nuodegulis unexpectedly became an internet celebrity after a humorous political incident. Internet users humorously discussed the situation, as if the furry creature had been given the right to participate in government decision-making.
Of course, it was just a meme, but many acknowledged that the cat looked quite worthy of such an important position.

Some cats sit so confidently among tools and pipes that they seem actually to know how to fix equipment. Those furry creatures watching the repairs with a deadly serious expression look especially convincing.

Some cats love to inspect bags, boxes, and any other objects around them. That’s why photos of furry “inspectors” at stations or near trains always look especially funny.

What could be cuter than a kitten next to a coffee machine? It seems like a moment before they’ll take your cappuccino order and draw a heart in the foam with their paw.
10. Fluffy CEO
Some cats have such confidence and charisma that they look like true leaders. Sitting at their desks or watching from above, they seem to control the entire office. And while most of these “jobs” exist solely for the sake of funny photos, one thing is for sure: cats can make any job much more charming.
